THE ORIGINAL HENNESSY X.O
In 1870, Maurice Hennesy created the Hennessy XO for his circle of friends. From there, a new style of cognac was born – bold, rich and complex.
LONG AGING FOR GREATER INTENSITY
The 100 eaux-de-vie assembled to create the XO and it is aged for a long time. Some of the Hennessy bottles are aged for at least 30 years. This is why Hennesy is a very special cognac – it has unparalleled robustness.
But what is Hennessy xo? The founder Maurice Hennessy actually gave the name X.O to symbolize extra old cognac.
The original Henessy XO brandy Extra Old Cognac France is both elegant and complex. It is aged and blended to be bold, rich and persistent!
Richard Hennessy founded the Maison in 1765. In addition, it is a maison that has always kept on innovating and creating to give birth to the world’s finest cognacs.
The Hennessy cognac started to become more and more popular in the United States after its first deliveries of Hennessy drinks to America. This was a country that had just gained it independence a mere 18 years beforehand.
The Prince of Wales, who would become the King George IV of Great Britain was a great connoisseur of Hennessy. Later, he asked Hennessy to create a ‘very superior old pale cognac’. Ever since then, the initials V.S.O.P – Very Superior Old Pale – have been used as a benchmark for the entire cognac liquor industry.
However, it was only in 1870, where the X.O cognac, the famous Hennessy XO was born. Maurice Henessy created the X.O (Extra Old) classification of cognac originally for family and friends. Today, it is one of the most famous cognac brands in the world and is a worldwide reference for cognacs.
THE ART OF EXCELLENCE
Cognac is not made, it is created.
At Hennessy, cognac is not improvised. It is raised with kindness and attention, firmness and affection.
In Cognac, and only in Cognac. At Hennessy, cognac is not improvised. However, it is raised with kindness and attention, firmness and affection. First, there is the grapevine. It yields Ugni Blanc, the light fruity grape specially suited to Hennessy Maison’s double distillation in great copper stills. To ensure the aromas will be both excellent and varied, only eaux-de-vie from the four great crus of the region (Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois) are selected for the privilege of becoming great Hennessy cognacs.
Next comes the ageing time, a test of vision and imagination, since this phase can extend beyond an entire lifetime. In the Hennessy cellars, casks hewn from over 100-year-old oak trees, exclusively from French forests , stand in a dim light infused with heavy notes.
Moreover, a total of over 300,000 casks rest there. In addition, Hennessy is proud to have one of the largest reserves of cognac eaux-de-vie in the world. The Founder’s Cellar is in itself a symbol of this heritage, the time-defying heart of Hennessy Maison.
We aged every single one of these eaux-de-vie for at least fifty years, and many are over a hundred years old. Once at the top of their potential, they put in large wicker-encased glass demijohns to preserve their exceptional qualities. They will then be used to create the rarest cognacs. The oldest eau-de-vie dates from 1800.
To honour the Hennessy’s legacy, the Hennessy X.O Limited Edition was created by the famous Frank Gehry, for the 150th anniversary of Hennessy XO. The creation remained the same till today – excellent quality from the fine blend of Eaux-de-vie.
